There were mixed fortunes for incumbent Members of Parliament (MPs) in the August 29, 2022 parliamentary election.
In Kitui Rural, David Mwalika of Wiper Party overcame competition from United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate Charles Nyamai to retain his seat.
Mwalika got 19,745 votes against Nyamai's 10,177 votes.
Thirty thousand and eighty-nine (30,089) voters participated in the polls, representing 54.71 per cent of the total registered voters (55,000).
A total of 166 votes were rejected.
Mwalika first joined the National Assembly in 2017 as MP for Kitui Rural on a Chama Cha Uzalendo (CCU) ticket.
In Rongai Constituency, Nakuru County, Paul Chebor of UDA was announced the winner.
Chebor polled 27,021 votes against the incumbent MP Raymond Moi's 14,715 votes. Moi, who has served as Rongai MP between 2013 and 2022, ran on KANU Party ticket.
In Kacheliba Constituency, West Pokot County, Titus Lotee of Kenya Union Party (KUP) was announced the winner with 20,073 votes. UDA candidate-cum-the incumbent MP, Mark Lomunokol, came second with 17,963 votes, while KANU's John Lokitare came third with 1,346 votes.
Thirty-nine thousand three hundred and eighty-two (39,382) voters cast their ballots in the Kacheliba parliamentary election. This represents a voter turn-out of 77 per cent. The total registered voters in Kacheliba were 51,146.
Forty-one (41) votes were rejected in the Kacheliba parliamentary polls.
In Pokot South, Kenya Union Party's David Pkosing successfully defended his MP seat in the August 29 election.
Pkosing got 28,225 votes against UDA candidate Simon Kalekem's 15,298 votes. Independent candidate James Lopoyetum got 2,677 votes.
Out of the 58,409 registered voters in Pokot South, 46,200 (79.10 per cent) cast their ballots.
A total of 156 votes were rejected.
This will be Pkosing's second term as an MP for Pokot South. He first joined the National Assembly on Jubilee Party ticket in 2017.
