Homemade face and body scrub are cheap and provide the skin with a luxurious, silk like feeling. There is a wide variety of ingredients that can be made without breaking your bank account.
Baking soda: Baking soda used as a scrub will leave the skin feeling soft and amazing. You could make a paste with water or mix it with a favorite scrub that smells better which you can use as a body scrub. For the face, choose to mix it with a facial cleanser while scrubbing.
It can also be used as a mask where you can leave the baking soda/water paste on the skin after scrubbing then rinse after 5-10 minutes. Perfect for oily skin.
Sugar: This is yet another simple and cheap scrub. Choose to combine ½ teaspoon of honey with 1 teaspoon of sugar to create a paste for the scrub. Sugar can also be mixed with banana, avocado or even a favorite oil like coconut oil for a moisturizing scrub. To keep the sugar granules intact, it is best to avoid prolonged mixing which would dissolve the granules.
Coffee: Use ground coffee to make a scrub that smells heavenly. Ground coffee granules are fine enough to be gentle while exfoliating. Mix 1/2 cup ground coffee, 1/2 cup sugar and 1 cup coconut oil to create a luxurious scrub.
It is advisable to keep the scrubbing to once or twice a week. Experiment by using oils like lavender, coconut or almond oil. Other scrubbing ingredients that are available in the kitchen include pumpkin, honey and avocado.
