Telkom Orange taught Multimedia University hockey lesson after they demolished the journalism students 21-0 in a one-sided national women’s league match at City Park Stadium.

The more experienced Orange took 5-0 half time lead with goals from Margaret Rotich, Betty Tioni, Doreen Barasa, Josephine Ataro and Jacky Ogot.

Orange, playing as if their survival depended on the number of goals scored, capitalised on the inexperience of Multimedia who are making their maiden appearance in top-flight hockey to add 17 more goals in second half.

In a match where sorts of records were achieved, Rotich, Ataro and Barbara Simiyu registered a hattrick each with Barasa, Tioni and Lucy Wangeci managing a brace in the demolition of Multimedia.

Betsy Omala, Tracy Nungari and Rose Mbulo entered their names on the scorers chart with one goal each.

Vikings recovered from a 1-0 deficit to tie with Sliders 1-1 in the other women’s league match at the same venue.

Anita Agunda put Sliders ahead with a field goal in the 32nd minute but Vikings equalised when June Jerop sounded the boards in the 42nd minute.

Following weekend matches, Orange still top the league standings with maximum 27 points off nine fixtures. Orange, which is the oldest club in the league, has scored 50 goals against three.

Strathmore University, who were out of action over the weekend, are distant second on 16 points from 16 matches followed by Sliders (10), Vikings (8), United States International University-Africa (6), Mombasa Sports Club (3) and Multimedia with no point.

Kenya Navy had a bountiful tour of Nairobi where they won their two matches to bag maximum points and cement their position as front-runners in the men’s national league.

The Mtongwe-based military men defeated Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology 3-0 on Saturday before hitting Kenya Polytechnic 7-1 in their second match at City Park Stadium to ensure that the return to Mombasa with six points and 10 goals.

Mombasa Sports Club utilised well home ground advantage after they edged out Multimedia 1-0 in a closely fought men’s national league match.

It was a bad occasion for university teams as Mombasa Sports Club handed Daystar 4-1 defeat to achieve double victory in the men’s league.

Navy who are playing in the national league for the first time lead 13 teams on 31 points off 11 matches following by Mombasa (22), Parklands (19), Nakuru (17), Multimedia 15) and Mombasa Institute (14).

Parklands beat Gymkhana 10-1 in a premiership encounter on Sunday.
