Sigona golfer Pratik Sanghrajka braved a rainy day to beat a field of 158 participants and emerge overall winner of the Sarova Hotels Corporate Golf Day.

Sanghrajka playing off handicap 25 posted 17 stableford points in the front nine and 23 points in the back nine for a total 40 to beat Peter Ngori on countback and lift the winners prize in the day-long event at the par 72 Royal Nairobi Golf Club.

"I am so happy with the win. It’s really a honour to win such a big event. My swing was great today and I was also good in putting. I guess these are what made me achieve that score," said Sanghrajka.

Ngori playing off handicap 26 won the men’s prize on 40 points (18, 22), while home golfer Mark Okeyo playing off 13 was the runner-up on 39 points (19, 20) after beating A Bhandari and Pami Sokhi on countback.

Ladies’ prize

Royal’s Hellen Gitau playing off handicap 16 won the ladies’ prize on 36 points (18, 18).

Chris Wood won the men’s longest drive on hole 18, while Annert Matyres took the ladies’ longest drive.

Meanwhile, Thushara De Silva scored 37 points to lift the Yellow Pages trophy at Nyali Golf and Country club on Friday adds Maarufu Mohammed.

"This is my fantastic moment although I had a hectic day beating traffic jam in town to catch up with the tournament," said De Silva who plays off handicap 19.

Handicap 15 Harald Schmidberger was the men’s winner on a two-way countback score of 45 points after tying with Mahendra Shah and Taufiq Balala.

Schoolboy at Aga Khan Academy in Mombasa, Tahir Mohamed, 11, playing off handicap 28 impressed with a score of 39 points.
