You were among the selected Top 40 under 40 women in Kenya. Was it something you expected?

No. I did not even know there were nominations going on. I was busy doing what I love and the award followed. I am filled with gratitude and excited at the same time.

What is that one thing that has made your blog successful?

Passion. I am passionate about my mission to Inform, Inspire and Ignite the youth. I have had to work smart to get to where I am today. The journey is just beginning.

Besides blogging, what other projects are you involved in?

I am a marketing associate intern at Google, a fourth year student at Strathmore University studying Bachelor of Commerce undertaking a double major in Marketing and Business Administration. I am also a Suzie Beauty brand ambassador.

Growing up, what did you want to be?

I always wanted to be a neurosurgeon as I love helping people and making the world a better place.

What advice would you give fellow ladies who want to venture into the ‘blogsphere’?

Have passion for what you are going to blog about. If you doing it for fame and money, do not as you will not succeed, and you will give up pretty soon.

What prompted you to become a blogger?

Odanga Madung and Samer Costellowho, the co-founders of Odipodev. They approached me in November 2012 about starting a blog. I remember writing my first blog post. I was scared that people would not appreciate it, but I reminded myself, ‘You will never change the world if you are worried about being liked.’ I published my first blog post and as they say, the rest is history.

What do you believe is your best quality?

I have been told that I have a big heart.

What do you believe is your most annoying quality?

Being a perfectionist, intolerant to conformity. I do not try to change into who I was not, but it was not easy dealing with mean people.

What is that one habit you struggle to get rid of?

I am the kind of person who will work so effectively from 11pm to 2am, making it hard for me to wake up early and energized. It is a pattern my dad suggested I change.

Phobias?

I hate cockroaches and I am afraid of the dark.

What motto do you live by?

The Miss Independent motto — Refuse to be average.

What is that one thing people do not know about you?

I am old-fashioned and believe in prince charming. Also, I see the world with the imagination of a child.

What do you love most about being a lady?

Ladies have a variety of products and services to choose from.

If you were to change something about yourself, what would it be?

Nothing. God made me perfectly.

What do you know about love and men now that you wish someone shed some light on when you were younger?

I have dated only once, but even with that little experience, I know that no man will ever love me the way my father loves me.

What do you never leave the house without?

My inhaler; I am not asthmatic.

What do you do to unwind?

I am a ‘shoeaholic’. I love shopping for perfumes. I also love yoga and going to the spa.

What is the first thing you do when you get into the house?

I change into my pajamas or attend to something I left pending while at work. My laptop is my best friend.

How do you deal with criticism?

I take it positively, as an opportunity to learn and become better.

What is your secret to good skin?

Drink the required amount of water, eat a fruit every day and not using harsh products on your skin.

Where do you see yourself in five years?

I see myself in the list of Top 10 Marketers in Africa and as a host of the Miss Independent Show.
