Mombasa, Kenya: A man has been jailed for 30 years by a Mombasa court for killing his brother over a land dispute, five years ago.
Hamisi Omar Dengo was found guilty of the murder of his brother and sentenced yesterday by Justice Maureen Odero. He was accused of murdering Mwatsuni Dengo in Mwavuno village of Kwale County between March 4 and 13, 2008.
The victim died days after the attack, according to the prosecution.
Omar, who appeared shocked by the sentence, refused to leave the dock when shown the door to the prison cells.

Justice Odero said evidence had been adduced to demonstrate Omar and his family were in the same homestead at the time of the crime and that after the attack the victim was rushed to hospital and found to have injuries to the head and other parts of the body.
The prosecution had said Mwatsuni was discharged from the hospital but returned after a week with chest complications and died afterwards.
Justice Odero said the doctor’s report showed that Mwatsuni died from wounds inflicted by the accused.
