What you put into your body has a huge effect on your fitness journey. Garbage in garbage out.

As per doctors’ orders, we are often encouraged to ditch the bad eating habits and embrace healthy eating.

Despite warnings from health professionals, fast food chains are rising and so are the rates of diseases like high cholesterol, diabetes, obesity and other health problems we see today.

Living in this day and age of technology, information is practically on our fingertips. The internet is a vast place where you can get all sorts of information on healthy living, dieting, exercise and other aspects of a healthy lifestyle.

Driven by people’s hunger to diet, trendy diets and fads have become huge. Fancy names like keto diets, vinegar diet and military diet, are the main topic of discussion nowadays in many threads, groups and boards.

Although these types of diets are still trending, why are some people ditching them these days?

There is a rising number of people going back to traditional ways of dieting because they’re not getting desired results.

Here, we’re looking at some of the reasons why these types of diets are failing.

• Different body types

We know that we can’t be exactly the same. We have different body shapes, sizes, metabolisms and this is exactly why it’s hard to believe these fad diet plans. The promoters usually promise you that you’ll get what you desire through a computer screen, which means there’s no way to regulate who they’re telling. Online promotion makes it hard to get in touch with people who want to try them so accuracy isn’t something that can be guaranteed.

They have no medical history, age and other details that need to be looked into yet they ‘promise’ that they’ll definitely work.

This is a huge red flag because a single diet can’t possibly work for everyone entirely.

• Paid promotions

There are a lot of fitness and diet promoters who are motivated by profit. Never forget that. The best way to get what they want is getting celebrities and influencers to sway you into buying their plans and products. Attractive words like, ‘instant fast’ or ‘super diet’ easily resonate within our subconscious minds, triggering positive perceptions. That way, you’re more likely to naively buy diet plans expecting to look a certain way within a short period.

• They ignore exercising

These diets don’t look into the importance of working out. They tend to focus on what you eat to get the desired effect and completely block out muscle strengthening and keeping fit. We know that fitness is a combination of what you eat and physical activity. Leaving one out will almost make the other fail. Exercise and proper diet go hand in hand if you really want to see results.

• They’re not long term

Well, you might have gotten some results or seen someone close to you get amazing results within a short time. The problem is that as soon as you stop, there’s a high chance that your body will revert to how it looked before starting the diet. Scientifically, starting these diets will trigger a certain response at the beginning. With time, your body will adjust accordingly and the progress will stagnate or revert once you stop because you can’t drink vinegar for the rest of your life anyway now can you?

If these aren’t long term solutions, what’s the point?

• The risks are never highlighted

This is a huge problem with trendy diets. Many of them suggest that you cut out on whole groups of foods like fats and carbohydrates in order to be fit and healthy. Basically, there is on distinction on what good fat and good carbs are. Our bodies need these in order to function properly. Encouraging people to just cut out whole groups of foods will lead to a lot of misunderstandings and in the long run, health problems are likely to develop.

Solution: Always do your homework before committing to any of these diets and where possible seek a professional to guide you through a proper diet plan that has been tailor made for you.
