The National Police Service on Sunday issued a number of updates regarding a suspected IED blast that took place at Latema Road on January 26, 2019.

Members of the public were urged to exercise high levels of awareness of their surroundings even as police continue to review CCTV footage from the surrounding premises.

“We wish to inform the public that investigations that will help in identifying those who may have been involved in the incident including reviewing CCTV camera footage are ongoing.

“We wish to clarify that the two victims who got injured during the incident sustained very slight injuries, were treated at a local dispensary and discharged,” read the statement in part.

Kenyans were also urged to refrain from profiling any sections of the population after it emerged that the luggage that exploded had been handed to the cart pusher by a Somali woman.

“Whilst we appeal to the public to support the security agencies to deal with these threats by providing information, we equally request that we refrain from profiling any sections of our population or even engaging in any unlawful acts that could lead to a breach of the peace.

“Meanwhile we urge all Kenyans to exercise higher levels of awareness of their surroundings and to go about their business without fear,” said the police.

The blast is believed to have been caused by an improvised explosive device and occurred at around 7pm (Saturday) outside Smothers Fast Food Restaurant on Tom Mboya Street.

It came barely two weeks after a terror attack at 14 Riverside claimed 21 lives and members of the public have been urged to report any suspicious activity to relevant authorities.
