Joseph Kitur and Isiah Kiplangat in 5,000m;

After three days of riveting action, Athletics Kenya fashioned a new order in the national athletic scene.

New names emerged from obscurity as a handful of big wigs maintained a tight grip in Team Kenya –while a huge list of world beaters saw their dreams crash-landed when AK named the Commonwealth Games team at the Nyayo National Stadium last evening.

Other globetrotting stars, among them Olympic and world 800m record holder, David Rudisha and two-time Olympic champion, Ezekiel Kemboi, were handed wild cards after failing to compete in the trials.

Rudisha missed the trials, but was granted a lifeline by panel of selectors. He is still in the US and will line up in the IAAF Diamond League in New York on June 14.

The brutal trials denied two-time champion Asbel Kiprop a stab at the Club Games as he did not finish the race, while Commonwealth Games 1,500m champion Silas Kiplagat did not show up and will not defend his title in Glasgow next month.

Newcomers Ronald Kipkemboi, Elijah Manangoi and former world silver medallist James Magut, who survived by a wild card, will carry the title defence bid in Glasgow.

It’s particularly sweet outing for former world 800m champion Janeth Jepkosgei and Ezekiel Kemboi, who will return to the Games for the fourth time in a row.

Kemboi won silver in 2002 (Manchester), gold in 2006 (Melbourne) and silver in 2010 (NewDehli), where Richard Mateelong carried the title.

Little-known Joseph Kitur answered critics as he made a comeback to national team alongside world indoor champion Caleb Mwangangi. They will join Isaiah Kiplangát, the world 5,000m bronze medallist, was rewarded for his determination to compete in the trials. Olympic 5,000m bronze medallist Thomas Longosiwa and former Olympic bronze medallist Edwin Soi were dragged out of the line-up after failing to compete in the semi-finals on Thursday when they were in the country.

Josphat Bett, who won 2008 world 10,000m juniors, returns to the global stage alongside Peter Kirui and upcoming athlete Charles Cheruiyot.

Jonathan Ndiku Muiya, the 2008 world junior 3,000m steeplechase champion, also got another shot at the global scene in 10,000m.

Commonwealth Games 400m runner Maureen Chelagat returns to the Club Games to make amends after failing she was disqualified for false start in NewDelhi.
