The two-day Wiper Democratic Movement party retreat ended with a raft of resolutions and strategies to win the 2017 elections.
Addressing the media soon after the meeting, Wiper chairman Senator David Musila said the members had resolved to re-energise the party in readiness for the polls. He said the party leader and his team would from January traverse the country to meet and thank party supporters for the support they gave the party during the 2013 General Election and also commence grassroots recruitment exercise.
Musila said the party would also revitalise its secretariat, women and youth wings. He said the party had constituted two teams, one led by Senator Mutula Kilonzo Junior to look into the party’s constitution and align it to conform to the Political Parties Act. The second one, led by Dr Temi Mutia, is tasked with devising the party’s strategic plan.
The party raised alarm on what members termed a worrying and emerging trend by Jubilee government to muzzle the media, civil society and interference with the Judiciary. Concerns were also raised over alleged numerous backdoor miscellaneous legislations being brought to Parliament.

“We have instructed our members to ensure that whatever has been brought back to Parliament goes in tandem with the wishes of the party,” said Musila.
The Wiper chairman said the party supports the vetting of the police, but added that the exercise must be above board. On security matters, Musila said the party was concerned by the increasing cases of insecurity and called on the government to protect the lives of all citizens.
He said the Wiper party fully supports the devolved system as a way of empowering and transforming the lives of Kenyans. Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka called for unity of purpose among all party members to ensure cohesiveness and victory. See more stories P.23 and 24
