Gor Mahia teenage striker Benson Omalla is delighted at the opportunity of playing in Europe.

Speaking to The Standard Sport via phone, Omalla. A Form Four candidate at Kisumu Day High School, revealed that he will be joining Swedish Division One side Linkoping City next month.

The former Western Stima striker said he is happy for the opportunity which he says will earn him exposure and help grow his football career.

“It is true I will be joining Linkoping City. I can’t describe how happy I am and I thank God for the opportunity,” said Omalla who was speaking after coming from school on Wednesday evening.

The 18-year-old Kisumu Day student signed a season-long loan deal with Linkoping City last week, though he is still a Gor Mahia player since he has a lengthy contract with the reigning champions.

Omalla however said he will officially jet out of the country after finishing his KCSE exams.

“My target right now is to pass my national exams. I am studying hard right now with all my focus and targets set at passing in my KCSE exams,” said Omalla.

Omalla has not featured prominently for Gor in the league as he balances his studies and school work due to school work and KCSE examinations.

He featured for Gor in the CAF Champions League preliminary round against APR of Rwanda in December last year as K’Ogalo advanced to the first round. 

The teenage sensation joined Gor Mahia during the 2020 August transfer window from Western Stima, where he had impressed.

He scored nine goals for Stima last season, including a hat trick against Zoo Kericho before the season was prematurely halted after the deadly coronavirus hit the country.

The Harambee Stars U20 striker became the youngest player to win the KPL Player of the Month Award after SJAK accorded him the award in December 2019.
