Locals decry drought, biting hunger

Residents of Ngarma Lowaib village in Samburu Central are appealing for relief food to beat hunger. 

The area has been experiencing a dry spell and for the past six months locals have been unable to access water or food.

Miriam Lekolol, a resident said drought has destroyed pasture and water sources, leaving many people in her village without food.

“We are hungry, our livestock are dying due to drought; we have no food because livestock is our only source of livelihood,” she said.

Church leaders yesterday morning distributed relief food to affected residents. Samburu Pentecostal Churches Council chair Bosco Lekisat said they used offerings to get the supplies.

“We are helping those who have no alternative businesses in most affected areas. After relieving 200 people here we will move to another area,” he said.
