Police in Eldoret are investigating the death of a judiciary court clerk who was found murdered meters from his home in Jerusalem area, Eldoret town along the Eldoret-Iten road.

David Ouma Nyabongo, who was working as a clerk at the High Court in Eldoret is said to have left his house after allegedly receiving a call from a colleague at around 10 pm on Friday.

However, on Saturday morning, his body was found with deep cuts on the back of his head by a local who was heading to work at around 5am.

Moiben OCPD Jamlak Ngarunya who confirmed the incident said the body of the deceased was identified on Sunday after a frantic search by his family and colleagues.

“When we received information from Hillary Kipkemboi Rotich (a resident), who was heading to work. Our officers visited the scene and found the body lying in a pool of blood near a maize plantation next to the Eldoret airstrip. It had deep cuts,” Ngarunya said.

He added, “After searching his pockets, we found documents in his body which showed he was an employee of the High Court in Eldoret. We called his colleagues who confirmed his identity.”

Mr Ngarunya said the deceased left his work station on Friday at around 7pm where he was preparing files for the Court of Appeal sitting set for Monday.

At around 10pm he left his home after a brief call heading to meet with one of his colleagues but did not return.

 “We have not established the motive of the killing, but we are working to unravel the people behind the killing,” Ngarunya maintained. “We will give clear information after collecting sufficient evidence from our investigations.”

This is now the third killing incident had been recorded within two months in Uasin Gishu County, involving judiciary officials.

In February, two clerks -Phenney Rowa and Shadrack Bett both working in the registry at the Law Court died under unclear circumstances.

The body was taken to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital awaiting for postmortem.
