British terror suspect taken to court under heavy guard

British terror suspect Jermaine Grant was on Tuesday taken to court in Mombasa under heavy guard.

 Grant who is facing multiple terrorist charges in Mombasa and is suspected to belong to Al-Shabaab was indicted on new charges on Monday but he pleaded not guilty.

An extraordinary security cordon of heavily armed police and armed prison warders was thrown around Shanzu Law Courts as Grant was whisked from Shimo la Tewa Prison where he is being held.

On Tuesday, prosecutors made forgery charges accusing him of attempting to acquire a Kenyan identity card by posing as a Taita by the name Robert Mwakio Mwata and giving false information.

Grant was charged before Mombasa Senior Resident Magistrate Mr James Omburah who remanded him in the custody after denying him a bond.
