NAIROBI, KENYA: First Lady Margaret Kenyatta hosted her first public event by flagging off a shoe distribution project aimed at giving millions of shoes to poor children.
The project by Ahadi Kenya Trust targets children from underprivileged regions and families in efforts to face out jiggers.
“Recent statistics from the Ministry of Health indicate over 1.4 million people are infested with jiggers, sadly 80 per cent of these are school going children. The shoe distribution initiative is a simple solution to such a huge problem that affects millions,” she said.
The First Lady disclosed that the fight against jiggers is very dear to her heart having met many people affected by the menace.
