The Anglican Church has scheduled free medical camps among other activities to mark the 26 anniversary of the tragic death of Bishop Alexander Muge.

Family members and leaders will attend a memorial service at the St Mathews ACK church today. Muge spoke up against injustice, corruption, oppression, tribalism among other vices.

Eldoret Bishop Christopher Ruto yesterday said the church has partnered with health facilities including the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital to offer specialised services, for instance, cancer screening in two camps at ACK St Mathews Church and at Kipngoror home area of former Bishop Muge in Nandi, Kapsabet diocese.

“A service in his commemoration will be held at St Mathews Church before his widow and family lay a wreath in his grave,” said Bishop Ruto.

“Bishop Muge played a critical role in the expansion of education and health institutions, water provision and he fought against oppression.

“He defended the marginalised especially in Turkana and West Pokot where he ensured they had a voice in demanding quality services,” said the cleric.

Bishop Muge who was head of Eldoret diocese met his death in a controversial road crash along Eldoret-Webuye road in August 14, 1990.
