Elgeyo Markakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen has accused Opposition leader Raila Odinga of abandoning Deputy President William Ruto to face charges at the International Criminal Court (ICC) on his own.

Mr Murkomen said Raila’s silence over the tribulations facing Mr Ruto and radio journalist Joshua Sang was “telling”.

The legislator yesterday said that Ruto was one of Raila’s political lieutenants at the height of the 2007-08 post-election violence. Speaking on a local television station programme yesterday morning, Murkomen said Raila’s silence on the ICC case was “deafening” yet Ruto was his friend.

“I believe you should support your friends when they are in a fix despite your political affiliations,” he said.

It was the second time in as many months members of the Jubilee coalition are accusing the Opposition leader of abandoning Ruto at his hour of need.
