Members of the Kiambu County Assembly have denied claims that they take home Sh500,000 per month as salary.
The officials said the claims fuelled by the Controller of Budget and a number of MPs have influenced the perception of the electorate and compromised their security.
“Why should the Controller of Budget and some MPs claim we earn Sh500,000? We have become so vulnerable because people imagine that we are loaded,” said the House Speaker, Gathii Irungu (pictured). He added that, “This is false information and in fact, we are even ready to present our payslips.”
The Speaker, accompanied by the House security committee, had visited the director of criminal investigations, Ndegwa Muhoro, in his office on Kiambu Road, following the mysterious disappearance of Juja MCA Gitau Munene on March 7.
Irungu asked Muhoro to release funds for divers and helicopters to widen and facilitate the search to comb through the vast coffee farms in the area for their missing colleague.
“We are living in fear since we are the ones mostly seen on the ground on a daily basis. We do not need firearms, but we want the government to improve our security and that of the common mwananchi,” said Irungu.
Munene went missing after he allegedly went to withdraw money for a fundraiser for Juja Catholic Church. His vehicle was found the following morning abandoned by the road with the engine still running.
