The greening Kenya initiative has recovered over 25,000 acres of forest land, in part of the ongoing campaign by the government to reclaim forest cover and conserve the country's environment. Assistant minister in the office of the Prime Minister Alfred Khangati said that the secretariat was working towards promoting initiatives that would encourage use of green energy, to reverse a trend that has seen over 80 percent of Kenyan homes use charcoal and wood fuel for cooking.
