Friends School Kamusinga hammered Kibabii High School 6-1 to emerge winners of the Western Lower Regional Secondary Schools Boys Hockey championship.

Kamusinga had beaten Terimi Boys 4-1 in the semi finals, while Kibabii sailed for the finals after whitewashing Sigalame boys from Samia District 2-0.

The Western Lower region brings together schools from Busia, Samia, Teso, Bungoma and Lugari districts.

Western Provincial Secondary Schools Sports Association Chairman Nobert Wangalwa and secretary Kennedy Mukhwana said teams from Lower Region would meet their counterparts from Upper Region next weekend. Wangalwa said the provincial events would be staged at Kamusinga grounds next weekend.

He explained that hosting arrangements and inspection of the fields would be carried out on Thursday.

The Upper Region, which comprises teams from Butere, Mumias, Vihiga, Hamisi, Emuhaya and Kakamega District, was also concluded over the weekend with Musingu thrashing Vihiga 7-0 to emerge the victors.

Beating lubinu

Musingu sailed into finals after beating Lubinu boys 2-1, while Vihiga disappointed Mukumu boys with a 2-0 win.

The events, played at Kakamega High School, saw St Peters Mumias wallop Malava boys 3-0 before they lost to Musingu in the preliminaries.

In girls’ hockey, Moi Girls Kamusinga edged Lugulu 1-0 to carry the title in a match played at Kamusinga Boys School. Cardinal Otunga Girls lost 2-1 to Kamusinga in the semis, while Lugulu proceeded to the finals after beating Eluuya Girls 3-1.

In the Upper region, Mukumu Girls High School carried the day after thrashing Mudavadi Girls 7-0 in the finals played at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology grounds.

Mukumu had beaten Kaimosi Girls High School 3-1 in the semis, while Mudavadi punished Koyonzo Girls 4-0.
