Kibwezi East MP Jessica Mbalu (left) consoles Edith Nyenze

Edith Nyenze was married to Kitui West MP and former Minority leader, the late Francis Nyenze. Hon. Nyenze had been battling colon cancer for years and died on Wednesday 6th December 2017. The late Nyenze preferred keeping his condition from the public until on August 31st when he was being sworn in. This is after he came for the occasion with an oxygen tank indicating his health was bad. He had contracted pneumonia during his campaigns which hugely affected his lungs.  The couple has been blessed with three children.

Talking to the media at Lee Funeral Home on Wednesday, Edith recounted the last moments with the former Cabinet Minister. She recounted how Hon. Nyenze had pleaded with her to let him go days before his demise. “He had started asking me a month ago to let him go. He said he would be well with the Lord, and he wanted to rest. "But every time he asked me I refused, I told him to stay longer,” she told The Standard.

She also said that although the late was responding positively to medication, on Tuesday night as she left the hospital, Nyenze made a rather gloomy and prolonged goodbye wave at her. She had stayed until late in the night and as she prepared to leave Nyenze insistently told her a number of times that he was leaving them.

The widow said that Francis was the best gift God had ever given to her and he was a very loving husband a politician but faithful to the family and a staunch Christian. She went ahead and said even though she was psychologically prepared for her husband’s death, the late was determined to get back on his feet and serve the people of Kitui West.

Francis Nyenze passed on at age 60 and was a member of Wiper Democratic Party till his demise.
