The Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology has announced the reopening dates for all its first-year and post-graduate students for face to face and online learning. Through an internal memo dated November 2, the Jkuat Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Robert Kinyua stated that the students are expected to resume school effective Monday, November 9, 2020.
"During a Special Meeting of Senate held on November 2, it was resolved that the University reopens blended learning (Face to face and online learning) for first-year students (September 2019, September 2020) & all Post-graduate students with effect from Monday, November 9, 2020.
"The first year students, September 2020 intake are required to report with their Original certificates and any other documents indicated in their Admission letters for verification by their respective schools. Hostel booking will be done online on Thursday, November 5, 2020, at 2.00pm on a first come, first served basis," read the memo.

The students expected to report were advised to adhere to the Ministry of Health guidelines to curb the spread of Covid-19. Jkuat also stated that they'd announce the resuming dates for the other students.

In October, Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha gave universities the green light to start phase reopening. However, CS Magoha stated that the universities would be required to be linked to a health facility before reopening. The CS said the education ministry officials and their public health counterparts would conduct routine monitoring to ensure compliance.
Last week, the Education CS said the ministry would hold a crisis meeting with stakeholders to discuss new opening dates and how the school calendar will be implemented. "We are going to meet as stakeholders soon and also as the government, and when the time comes, we may be bold enough if we have a consensus to tell you when the rest of the schools shall reopen," he said.
