Rappers Octoppizzo and Khaligraph Jones, two of Kenya’s most notable hip-hop heavyweights amid an infamous rivalry, have put aside their differences following the latter’s first-ever BET nomination in the Best International Flow category.
Taking to Twitter in a rare move to congratulate and rally support for the Lwanda Magere Legacy 1 star, Octopizzo wished his nemesis the best, saying he is genuinely rooting for him to bag the BET gong. “We’ve always had our differences and that will remain like that. But congratulations Brayo aka KJones on your BET nomination, all my die-hard go vote for Jones, na akishinda hio award namvutisha vela cha lazima si ati nini. All the best ~ Don,” tweeted Octopizzo.

A message echoed by Kaka Empire CEO, Kennedy Ombima alias King Kaka, who in an Instagram message stated that he was proud of the rapper billed as one of the greatest of his generation. “From our WAPI days to this. I am happy for you bro. Urging all my fans to Vote for my Bro @khaligraph_jones on his BET Nomination. Let’s Bring This One Home!!! Kupiga kura ni kujitegemea,” read King Kaka’s post.
“Ngoriiiii!!” Cheered pop artist David ‘Nameless’ Mathenge. “Ni Kubayaa,” added Khaligraph Jone’s fast-rising protégé Breeder LW. While Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko shared, “Congrats OG. Omollo Road coming soon to Nairobi.” Uganda’s Navio, Kenya's Fena Gitu, Femi One, Magix Enga and Tanasha Donna – among others- were not left behind either, and posted; “Khaligraph_jones Yoooo! That’s big fam! Hard work and patience!!, Lookatewww, Congratulations Khali, Respect the OGs wengine wangoje Extreme Awards, You got the respect. Believe that!” respectively.

For Jones, the nod by the award show established in 2001 by ‘Black Entertainment Television network to celebrate achievements in music, sports, television, and movies’ is the icing on the cake; an affirmation of his rising star and positioning among the trendsetters of the genre. “Yooooooooh, Khaligraph Jones is a movement, my 1st ever BET Nomination in the Best International Flow category, the OG Shall be respected,” he shared. He will battle it out for the award with South Africa’s Nasty C, UK's Stormzy and Ms Banks, Meryl and Kaaris (France) as well as Brazil’s Djonga.
Down south, Nasty C is riding high with his second project of 2020 - Zulu Man with Some Power – and will be making a second stab at the award having lost out to Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie in 2019. Nasty C and Sarkodie had been pooled with acclaimed Nigerian rapper Falz, UK's Ghetts and Little Simz, France’s Kalash and Canada's Tory Lanez.
