Anxiety has gripped a family in Homa Bay over the whereabouts of their kin, who has not been seen since he left to mark this year’s Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examinations.
The family says Moses Odumbe, a teacher at Kogana Primary School in Karachuonyo, travelled to Nairobi for the exercise early this month but has not returned home. Their efforts to trace him have also borne no fruit.

The 49-year-old tutor is reported to have been marking the examinations at St Georges Girls Secondary School in Nairobi. According to his wife Joyce Odumbe, the teacher left his home on November 8. He arrived safely in Nairobi the following day.
“We went to his nephew’s house in Kikuyu, where he rested for some time before leaving for the examination marking centre,” said Joyce.

Reduce frequency
Prior to his departure, Mr Odumbe had informed his family that teachers’ phones would be confiscated during the time of marking examinations. This would reduce frequency of their communication.
Joyce and her family became suspicious after the father of six failed to communicate to them even during breaks.
The family’s worry was aggravated on Monday last week when Education CS George Magoha released the results, yet Odumbe was still missing.

His wife and her relatives in Nairobi began tracing Odumbe’s journey to the examination marking centre. They were, however, disappointed to learn from the Kenya National Examinations Council (Knec) offices that Mr Odumbe never participated in the exercise.
“Knec officials told us my husband checked into the exam marking centre once, but he never marked any paper afterwards,” said Joyce.
They have since checked many other places. Joyce, with individuals from Kogana Primary School, has urged Knec to help them find the teacher, who has been in the profession for over two decades.
