This is the story of a cat. A cat called goose. A cat with more personality that the whole cast put together. But I kid, the cat takes the movie to a whole other level.
Captain Marvel really is about a woman who realizes the true extent of her powers which have been hidden from her as well as having her weakness constantly reinforced into her. Carol Danvers played by Brie Larson, is an Air Force pilot turned intergalactic hero who is struggling to control her powers and demons in the form of nightmares which keep recurring.
In one of the missions, Danvers, who is now a Kree warrior, is abducted by the shape shifting enemies known as the Skrulls. In her bid to escape, she finds herself in Los Angeles where she discovers that the Kree - Skrull war isn’t what she had been told. Her landing captures the attention of Shield agent Nick Fury played by Samuel L Jackson.
In the ensuing journey, Danvers discovers that she had a life on planet earth and had played a role in assisting an undercover Skrull warrior, Dr Wendy Lawson, hide the Tesseract, the source of the energy core. She also remembers that it was during this mission that a Kree killed the doctor and in the ensuing explosion, Danvers absorbed the energy from the engine's energy core.

Using the help of her former Air Force colleague, Danvers is able to find the cloaked lab ship orbiting the earth, where several skrulls are hiding and protecting the Tesseract. Goose, remember the cat, is revealed to be another worldly creature called a Flerkin, swallows the energy core before scratching Fury's eye and blinding him.
Meanwhile, Danvers who has been captured and assembled before the Starforce Supreme Intelligence, removes an implant which had been installed on her neck to suppress her power. This gives her full access to her power, and boy does she show them.
Captain Marvel breaks the long running stereotype of female led movies not being box office smashers. It debuted at a whopping $455 million globally, making it the 6th best start for a movie. Following in the footsteps of the critically acclaimed 'Wonder Woman' this movie has told the story of female power, the abilities that women have if the barriers are removed.
When Danvers realizes and says "I have been fighting with one hand tied behind my back" as well as "what happens when I am finally set free," her might is unleashed and she is unstoppable.
The story line also does not have the cliché romantic plot. This time, they focus on friendships and most importantly, how far a woman can go.
The visual effects are wonderful, the humor is on point and of course, there is the cat. Loved that cat.
