Gor banned from using Nyayo, Kasarani stadiums

Gor Mahia will not play any of their league matches at either Nyayo National Stadium or Kasarani following recent violent incidences involving their fans.

The Sports Stadia Management Board Friday announced the ban, hardly a week after Gor fans caused chaos during their match against AFC Leopards at Nyayo. The fans also destroyed property worth Sh100,000, which the club will be required to pay.

Newly appointed SSMB chairman Daniel Opande said the move was arrived at after aboard meeting, which condemned the action of Gor fans.

"The board also ruled that the club will have to pay all the damages that emanated from the violence," he told journalists.

He said the club had the means and resources to ensure that when they play it does not degenerate into violence.

However, Opande gave the club a leeway saying the ban may be lifted if Gor show that they are willing to behave with decorum in future matches.

"If they were really interested in ensuring that people enjoy football, then they can do it," he added.

Opande added that the board is going to ensure that stones are removed from around Nyayo Stadium. However, he said, it is the responsibility of everyone to ensure that this are not used to hurt others.

"We are currently discussing with stakeholders including Football Kenya Federation (FKF), KPL, clubs and the Police to ensure that security around our stadia is improved," Opande added admitting that security in and around the stadia has been wanting.

"We are also discussing new security guidelines as SSMB and once these are done, we are going to appeal to the fans to ensure they maintain calm at all times."
