Three MPs yesterday accused Prime Minister Raila Odinga and his two deputies of absconding Parliament by failing to attend Prime Minister’s Question Time session.

Speaker Kenneth Marende defended the PM, saying some actions demanded of the Premier by MPs are not obligatory. He said Raila was away with good reason.

But Garsen MP Danson Mungatana felt the PM’s absence violates Parliament’s Standing Order 40 that creates the PMs Question Time for 45 minutes every Wednesday afternoon.

"There are so many issues of national importance we want the Prime Minister to address," the MP said and added that he wants the premier to address the "state of suspense" generated by Raila’s suspensions of Cabinet ministers William Ruto and Sam Ongeri and their reinstatement.

Yatta MP Charles Kilonzo also accused the PM and his deputies over the same. "The Prime minister and his two deputies are not attentive to House matters," he said.

Kandara MP Maina Kamau said the Prime Minister’s absence has frustrated MPs who want answers.

But the Speaker said there is no Standing Order compelling the Prime Minister to take questions and give statements on Wednesday. "We received information at the House Business Committee that the PM has no statements to make," said Marende.
