The business community in Homabay is lamenting persistent power blackouts which are causing them losses.
At the same time, the Kenya Power company has warned locals against vandalism and theft of electricity. The area has been plunged into a blackout after the latest incident on Thursday night at Ongoro in Ranchuonyo East sub-County.
It is reported that the criminals siphoned oil from the transformer.
Residents say they have petitioned Kenya Power to have the transformer restored.

“Most of us depend on electricity for powering our refrigerators and other business activities,” said John Aluoch, a barbershop operator.
Prior to this incident, another transformer had been stolen at Nyarongi, West Kanyandoto location Ndhiwa Sub-county about a fortnight ago.
Head of Kenya Power in the county Ken Okumbe expressed concerns over the rampant theft.
“Vandalism and theft of our transformers are derailing our efforts to improve the economy in this county,” Okumbe said.
