Four Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) commissioners who disowned the final presidential results now allege the final figures announced were not logical.

In a press conference at the Serena Hotel on Tuesday, August 16, IEBC Vice Chairperson Juliana Cherera said Chebukati's total aggregation of the votes cast was in excess by 0.01 per cent, representing 142, 000 votes.

Cherera now says that Chebukati's aggregation is not logical and that the esults lacked important ingredients to support the percentage scored by respective candidates.

"The total percentage from figures displayed by the four leaders is 100.01% which translates to 142,000. This will make a significant difference in the final results," Cherera said.

Further, she said that the four commissioners brought the issue to Chebukati's attention but he insisted on announcing the results.

"We declined because the aggregation resulted in a total exceeding 100 per cent which cast out on the accuracy of source of figures tallied and when we demanded that we verify our records, the chairman declined, overruled us and insisted on announcing the results," the commission’s vice chair said.

"Contrary to the constitution and legislation, the results declared did not indicate the number of registered voters, total number of votes cast or number of rejected votes if any. In this regard, the results by Chebukati lacked the total number of votes cast to support the percentages scored by the four candidates.”

Chebukati declared William Ruto as election winner with a total of 50.49 per cent.

Azimio la Umoja's Raila Odinga had 48.88 per cent, David Mwaure (0.27 per cent) and Roots Party's George Wajackoya 0.44 per cent.
