Three Members of Parliament from Kiambu County have told Education Cabinet Secretary Jacob Kaimenyi to ensure pupils from the region are enrolled in national schools located in the area.

The MPs claimed that pupils from the county got a raw deal last year as very few were admitted to national schools since those from elsewhere were given priority.

Kiambu Woman Representative Ann Nyokabi, Kiambu Town MP Jude Njomo and Lari MP Mburu Kahangara said that this time around, they would not entertain any excuses. Last time when they were told that there was a computer error.

Local schools

Njomo, who spoke at Kiambu Institute of Science and Technology, said that they had spent a lot of money from the CDF kitty to fund local schools and it would be an insult to them if local pupils were not admitted there.

The national schools in Kiambu County include Alliance High School, Alliance Girls High School, Limuru Girls High School, Loreto Girls High School, Starehe Girls Centre and Mary Hill Girls High School.

Nyokabi warned Kaimenyi of dire consequences if he did not ensure Form One selection is conducted well.

"I know currently Kaimenyi is having sleepless nights due to the teachers' strike. If this time around there will be a computer error again, he will not sleep at all," she said.

Nyokabi and Kahangara spoke at Kimende shopping centre in Lari constituency Sunday during presentation of Uwezo Fund cheques to 80 groups of women and youth that qualified from the kitty.

Concerning the current teachers' strike, Kahangara urged teachers to be considerate as their salary increase demands were beyond what the Government could afford to pay.
