Kenya Premier League side AFC Leopards hopes of owning up a stadium has been rekindled.

This was after the Defence Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa promised to initiate the reclamation of its parcel of land in Kasarani that was donated to the club by the former President, Daniel Arap Moi.

Wamalwa said he will initiate the process of reclaiming the 20-acre piece of land adjacent to the Moi International Sports Centre-Kasarani stadium and assist Ingwe put up a stadium.

Speaking at a Nairobi Hotel on Thursday June 23, during the unveiling of a new sponsor of the club, Wamalwa noted that it is high time for the land which is threatened by encroachment by private developers to be brought back for the facility.

“I will personally follow-up the land in Kasarani which is meant for the club and help you (Ingwe) own a home soon. We will continue working together to make sure our club has a permanent home. We shall engage the corporate world to enable Leopards to own a modern stadium,” said Wamalwa.

Two years back, the ANC Party Leader, Musalia Mudavadi donated Sh633,000 to the club to process the land’s documentation.

During the event, Ingwe unveiled a new sponsor, Spotika who came on board with Sh 60 million which will take effect from August 2022.

The sponsor comes to resuscitate the financial woes of Ingwe after Betsafe announced terminating its contract.

If this comes to effect, then this will be the second aid Wamalwa has extended to the AFC Leopards in a span of two years after donating a 51 seater to the club.

Ingwe’s chairman Dan Shikanda, says the money will go a long way in solving the clubs salaries challenge which has been the main cause of losing notable names to other clubs.

‘‘When the money comes in, we will divert a good amount towards the salaries of our players which has cost us many players to our opponents,’’ said Shikanda.
