Residents of Lumakanda area, Kakamega County are still reeling in shock after a preacher was attacked by an almost 15 feet long snake during a botched exorcism attempt.
Following numerous complaints of witchcraft and evil spirits related problems, residents of Bendera village decided to consult a powerful pastor to exorcise the locale.
This was aimed at, among others, helping the youth, who despite being educated remain unemployed, get jobs.
Families, too, have been falling part, with most people suspecting evil spirits and witchcraft commonly practiced by some locals.
According to Dedan Chitwa, who contacted the pastor, his family and neighbours have been experiencing unexplained tragedies and decided to seek divine intervention.

“Locals requested me to contract pastor Wycliffe Wanjala who hails from Webuye to help in casting out the demons in the area. We have never known peace because of witchcraft and evil spirits,” Mr Chitwa said.
But as the daring man of God was storming homes suspected to be practicing witchcraft and reading the home owners the riot act, he stumbled upon the snake.
While attempting to strangle the serpent, it bit him, scaring a crowd that had formed to witness the exorcism.
The crowd killed the snake and rushed the preacher to Lumakanda dispensary for first aid before being transferred to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret where he is now recuperating.
Musa Wanyonyi, a local, said the pastor exhumed several witchcraft related materials buried in some homes.
“I was surprised to see such a snake that’s only seen in museums and movies. This area is well known for its jobless youth, alcoholism, poverty and broken marriages. Most of which the man of God attributed to witchcraft,” said Wanyonyi.
