Rating: 6.5/10
The series, based on the novel Point of Impact by Stephen Hunter and the 2007 film of the same name, follows the journey of Bob Lee Swagger, a highly-decorated veteran.
Swagger, who was living in exile is coaxed back into action on learning of a plot to kill the President from his former commanding officer Isaac Johnson and wants to prevent it.
Unknowingly, he walks right into a scheme where he is double-crossed and framed for the attempt. He goes on the run to find the real killer and the reason he was set up, to protect his family and clear his name.
Thumbs Up
The casting was on point with the cast portraying their respective characters in a way that was believable. The story flows well and the end of each episode leaves one with just enough suspense that you want to watch the next.
Characters develop as the series progresses and you get to associate with them as they depict everyday life. The family angle is endearing and makes you root for Swagger.
Thumbs Down
As usual TV always ruins the book, first with the re-imagining of the character Swagger to fit the Hollywood standards. In the series Swagger is very young and graceful, already married, handsome and smart, which is not the case in the book.
Swagger’s FBI informant is re-imagined from a man to a woman. All these changes take away from the book, making the characters politically correct and the series a bit boring and lacking a certain edge to it.
The music meant to convey suspense is at best, annoying.
Verdict
A very promising series with lots of potential. Watch out for season 2.
