For more than five years now city saccos and matatu owners have been competing to unveil the best mathrees, with some spending millions to pimp their rides to win more loyal passengers.

South C has remained behind in this race and has just started pimping old 14-seater mats to catch up with the rest.

But a recently pimped mathree plying the city centre /South C route has now become the talk of town because of its exclusive features.

Dubbed Ngamia 2, this mathree belonging to Telaviv Transporters Limited is the first one to be fitted with ‘suicide doors’ only found in state-of-the-art vehicles, mostly owned by international celebrities.

Sadam Ali, the owner explains: “The door designs are locally made with strong shock absorbers, hence suicide doors. Tts front and back lights are similar to those fitted on buses but I chose them to stand out. He adds that, “I bought it late last year for Sh600,000 and it cost me more than Sh600,000 to pimp.”

Other features that make Ngamia 2 rule South C include 42-inch screen with in-built decoder, two woofers for quality music and videos, tablets for interested passengers to take selfies with the mathree and other six small screens behind.

While other mathrees line up for passengers, Ngamia is arguably a ‘passenger puller,’ mostly lasses who scramble for comfortable seats in less than five minutes once at the stage.
