Police exhume human body found in a shallow grave

Makindu police together with Officers from Directorate of Criminal Investigations have today morning exhumed a human body from a shallow grave at the banks of River Makindu, within Manyatta sub-location, Makueni county.

The remains were discovered on Friday evening by herders. Some parts of the skeleton were protruding something that caught the attention of the herders who went ahead and informed the area chief.

"Human body remains were discovered at River Makindu bridge near old railway line by herders while grazing animals around the area. Officers from both police and DCI visited the scene and established it was a human body buried in a shallow grave," said Makueni county commander Joseph Ole Naipeiyan in a statement.

Earlier today, the skeleton was obtained and taken to Makindu hospital mortuary with the area assistant chief asking for anybody who might have lost a family member to visit the mortuary for identification.

He is believed to have been killed elsewhere, and his body buried there some years back.

"Let anybody who has lost a family member to visit the mortuary and check on the clothes the deceased was wearing," said Mulilii Assistant Chief Daniel Kisee
