Anthony Martial left Manchester United’s Los Angeles base to fly to Paris for the birth of his second child.
His departure from the 2018 tour has left Jose Mourinho short of forwards as Romelu Lukaku and Marcus Rashford are still on holiday because of their participation in summer’s World Cup in Russia.
Martial’s future at Old Trafford has been a topic in recent months, especially after his agent Philippe Lamboley suggested that the French forward wants to quit United.
After the 22-year-old left for Paris, reports indicated that Mourinho was furious at his late notice but the Portuguese manager clarified that he was fully aware of Martial’s decision.
It was not known whether the former Monaco striker will return for the remainder of United’s pre-season tour and now UK Sports Outlet Metro understands that the forward may not return after he informed his teammates that he is unlikely to return to US.
