Outgoing AFC Leopards coach Dennis Kitambi is the winner of the Fidelity Insurance Coach of the Month for March.

Kitambi, who was in acting capacity for Leopards after the departure of Robert Matano, guided the Kenyan Premier League titans to three wins last month.

He was unanimously voted the best by the Sports Journalists Association of Kenya (SJAK) Football Commission to win Sh75,000 and a trophy.

Kitambi is leaving Kenya for Bangladesh Premier League side Saif Sporting Club, where he will reunite with his former boss at Leopards Stewart Hall.

Kitambi started the month of March with a 2-0 win away to Sony Sugar at Green Stadium, Awendo, then broke Mathare United’s unbeaten run with a 4-3 win in Machakos.

AFC Leopards concluded their successful March campaign in style, beating Kakamega Homeboyz 2-1 at home.

Kitambi was pleased with the award, noting that it comes as a big motivation ahead of his new role in the Asian continent.

“I’m so honoured to win this award. I appreciate my players and technical bench for making this happen. Even as I leave the club, I leave them in safe hands of the new coach because I have set up the foundation. There are a lot of challenges, but I believe AFC Leopards is destined for success,” the Tanzanian said after receiving the award.

Kitambi becomes the second recipient of the monthly coaches’ award this year after veteran tactician Francis Kimanzi scooped the season opening accolade for the month of February.

The Fidelity Insurance Coach of the Month Award is held every month by SJAK to recognise coaches who exhibit exemplary performance in the Kenyan Premier League
