The National women’s football team, Harambee Starlets face their Ugandan counterparts in the second leg of the first round Africa Women Cup of Nations (AWCON) qualifiers today at StarTimes Stadium in Lugogo.
Starlets take a 1-0 advantage to this encounter after Lilian Adera scored in the first leg match at Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos last Wednesday.
Speaking to The Standard Sports yesterday on phone from Kampala, Starlets coach David Ouma exuded confidence ahead of the encounter adding that they can’t afford to lose the momentum.
“We had planned for a bigger winning margin at home in the first leg, but that never happened.
“We will be cautious in this match considering the fact that we are playing away and against an improved Ugandan side. Tactically, the hosts will change their game plan and we are ready for that,” Ouma said.

Starlets will however miss the services of striker Esse Akida who has education commitments ahead of this encounter.
Akida’s void will be filled by either Vihiga Queens striker Phoebe Owiti or Thika Queens’ Mercy Achieng.
The winner from this round will face Equatorial Guinea in the second and final round of the qualifiers with the winner joining Ghana in the AWCON finals at the end of the year.
“This is a tricky match but we need to play our cards well. We are ranked ahead of Uganda and we need to play to fit that status. We will miss the services of Akida but we have players who can also play in that position,” Ouma said. [Rebecca Jebet]
