At Gor, captain Mohammed calls the shots as he pleases

In exactly one month, Musa Mohammed will be turning 26, yet despite his young age he captains players who are older than him at Gor Mahia.

At 25, he has won more local titles that virtually every player who will be on the pitch today when Gor Mahia clash with old-age rivals AFC Leopards.

Further to that, he will be the only player to have played in all derbies since 2010 when he joined the club from high school. Again, he will be the only player at Nyayo, who has been used over 220 times in the league.

If there is one player in the current league who has been committed to one club in his entire career, through thick and thin, then it must be Musa Mohammed.

He has seen the best and the worst in all matches and derbies as well. He has won some matches and lost others. He has also come in handy to calm tempers when fans felt aggrieved.

But there is no denying that Mohammed deserves respect from each player when they shake hands at the start of the game today.

After all, he is the only one who has won the domestic cup twice (in 2011 and 2012), the Top 8 in 2012 and 2014 and the KPL title three times, in 2013, 2014 and 2015.

"This will be my ninth league game against AFC Leopards and I am very excited knowing no other player on the pitch has achieved this fete," he said.

"This is going to be a big game because both sides are in some good form and are chasing the title. We will give our best to win the game and give our fans something to celebrate," he added.

He is expected to partner Harun Shakava at the heart of Gor Mahia defence. This pair has conceded the least goals over the last two season in 2014 and 2015.

They went unbeaten as they won the league in 2015 and conceded the least goals, 12, in 30 rounds of matches.
