Historians will correctly tell you that the Leopards have had an 18-year-old league cup win 'drought'. They will also tell you that Ingwe has not won its season-opening games in years, well that is until this season, when the boys clawed Nakumatt FC 3-0.
This laudable, record-breaking win was followed by a second comeback win over league debutants Nzoia Sugar (2-1). Before pundits call it a fluke, we would like to introduce them to our new philosophy 'ebindu bichenjanga' translated from Luhya to mean 'things change!'
From the 'drought', AFC have learnt and are mastering the art of working quietly and therefore, working efficiently! If you have been a keen observer of the goings-on at the Den since September 2016 when AFC held its last elections, you will note that indeed, there is a big change in the management style.
Long gone are the days when AFC would be full of politics of petty squabbling , where club officials would trade barbs through the media; spats between the technical bench, players and the club officials; endless blame games; lack of goodwill that resulted in poor league results and near misses...

A combination of all the above and similar factors turned Ingwe into a 'sleeping giant'. Our arch rivals, Gor Mahia FC surely need to be taken through some history classes and use AFC as a case study, if the recent disquiet in their stable is anything to go by.
The club officials are openly arguing over matters that can be ironed out in closed-door sessions. The fights have now spilt to shouts between an official and a player on social media! It is easy to dismiss this as just storm in a teacup that deserves little or no attention, but there is an old American saying that; "...If you hang around the barber shop long enough, sooner or later, you will get a hair cut!"
Tougher times lie ahead if the same is not tamed and fast. If you cannot resonate with the above saying, then just remember what our former president, Daniel Toroitich Arap Moi used to say; "Bad politics leads to bad life."
By the way, just the other day, Gor fans were up in arms over what they said were paltry gate collections their club was collecting. Talk is rife that accountability levels at the K'Ogalo stable are wanting. But most interesting is the fact that a week later, there was no major difference in the figures reported.
One thing is evident though, the bubble that Gor Mahia's gate collections keep hitting the enviable six-figure mark is slowly being busted! Either Gor has the numbers, but most do not attend matches, or if they attend, but do not pay!
