CORD leader Raila Odinga

CORD leader Raila Odinga yesterday promised to punish those who have looted public funds after “we win the 2017 elections”.

He said he would also ensure those who have plundered the National Youth Service (NYS) refund the stolen funds. Raila also called on Kenyans to demand the resignation of those implicated in financial scandals.

“When I raised questions about NYS and Eurobond, I was called names by Jubilee leaders and Cabinet secretaries. Now see who is on the list. It is upon Kenyans to know who is speaking the truth,” the CORD principal said.

He regretted that huge amounts of money had been pocketed by a few individuals yet it was meant to serve Kenyans.

“I said the high priest of corruption is in State House and they denied. Now read the names and see who the culprits are close to then you know that our country is in trouble. The teargassing of Langata Primary School children, the Wilson Airport land scandal, Eurobond, the NYS, the list is endless,” Raila added.

Raila warned county governments to be wary of corruption cartels from the national government who will entice them with big projects but will end up to be big corruption scandals.

The CORD leader accused the Jubilee coalition of abetting corruption and said that the money will be used for 2017 campaigns.

“The unfolding Sh791 million NYS scandal shows Jubilee is stealing public money to finance campaigns and buying support as its only option for retaining power,” the former prime minister said.

He added: “But when we win the 2017 elections, we will make sure that all the public funds stolen by this Government will be returned and those who stole it jailed.”

“This Government has broken the corruption record in this country. CORD government will hold accountable every corrupt leader. We will prove it is possible to have a clean and honest government that Kenyans have been yearning for for more than half a century.”

Raila said the Government had failed to tackle corruption and this has made it hard for Kenyans.

Speaking in Kisii, Raila asked Kenyans not to view the Jubilee Government led by President Uhuru Kenyatta as a model government, noting it has broken every record with regard to corruption as its members steal and then deny and abuse those who raise alarm on corruption.

“The Jubilee coalition has broken its every promise to fight corruption, including a memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed with US President Barack Obama. We must not be tempted to join this costly path to doom and failure. The Jubilee coalition has perfected the art of corruption,” Raila said.

To better serve wananchi, the former premier said CORD will not tolerate theft of public resources, wastage, patronage and exclusion by any county government.

“You should focus on areas in which investment will have positive impact on people’s lives,” he said.
