People who suspect to be suffering from glaucoma have been urged to go for medical check-ups early.
Dr Daniel Kiage, the founder of Innovation Eye Centre in Kisii County, said glaucoma can lead to eventual blindness if not treated early.
He said the disease is common among people aged 60 years and above and among people suffering from diabetes.
“If drugs don’t work or if the patient cannot tolerate them, surgical intervention may become an option,” Kiage said.

“Damage caused by glaucoma is irreversible. However, regular check-ups and proper treatment can considerably slow down the progression of the disease, and even prevent further loss of eyesight,” he said.
