Security guards have demanded for full combat gear, arguing that they need such protection to minimise unnecessary loss of lives.
Further, being armed with guns and bullet-proof vests will act as a deterrent measure, Kenya National Private Security Workers’ Union (KNPSWU) has said.
KNPSWU is mourning the loss of a colleague at the Westgate Shopping Mall.
Maurice Adembetsa, 36, was shot dead when he attempted to stop the terrorists who injured five more guards.

“Our union has continuously lost members through crimes and international crimes of terrorism. We demand that they be given bullet-proof vests and guns to avoid incidents of blanket execution while protecting lives and property of Kenyans,” said union secretary general Isaac Andabwa.
He said the incident shows the poor working conditions and ill-equipment of his members.
