Record Kenya Cup champions Nondescripts are on the brink of being relegated from the league after a difficult 2021/2022 season.

Even a 12-0 win against Mwamba on Saturday could not lift the Ngong Racecourse-based club from the bottom of the standings as the league enters a penultimate stage.

Nondies are last in the 12-club league with 11 points same as Impala Saracens after nine matches played having won two and lost seven.

The battle to survive relegation will go down to the wire as Nondies alongside Impala, Nakuru, Homeboyz and Mwamba all fight to avoid the chop.

Nakuru are 10th on the log just a point above the relegation zone. The eighth and ninth slots are occupied by Mwamba and Homeboyz all tied on 15 points.

With two matches left to the end of the regular season, the biggest question is, is it the end of the road for Kenya’s oldest rugby club? Nondies captain Fidel Oloo disagrees.

Speaking to the Standard Sports, Oloo said the win against Mwamba over the weekend has reignited a new flame and fighting spirit in the boys and they believe they will survive if they win their two remaining fixtures.

The 17-time Kenya Cup champions will host fellow strugglers Impala this coming weekend before playing another struggling side Homeboyz on the final day of the regular season. Oloo believes they can pull through and survive.

“We are definitely within the right track regarding the cut and as a team we’ve decided on giving all our best in the remaining matches in order to survive,’’ said Oloo.

“As a team we just have to work on our previous strengths and limit the mistakes we’ve made before. Anything is possible and we believe.”

With Homeboyz playing unbeaten and inform Kabras Sugar next, the former Kabras Sugar player believes the season will be theirs to save or lose when they host the deejays on the final day of the season.

As the battle to avoid the drop continues, another epic battle is expected to go all the way to the last day involves eight-time champions KCB and Kabras Sugar.

The two most dominant clubs in Kenya right now will be fighting to finish top at the end of the regular season and have the privilege of hosting the 2022 Kenya Cup final.

The sugar men thrashed Strathmore Leos 32-3 to maintain their 100 percent start to the season and are top on 45 points, five ahead of the bankers who missed out on a bonus point win after digging deep to edge Menengai Oilers 23-18.

The defending champions will face Leos at Madaraka as Kabras host Homeboyz before the two clash on the final day in what is expected to be a curtain raiser to this year’s finals.
