Kericho, Kenya: The dreams of joining Form One for 60 pupils of Crystal Hill Academy in Sondu, Kericho County, were dashed after the Kenya National Examinations Council (Knec) cancelled their Kiswahili examination results.
Only four of the 64 candidates who sat last year’s Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exam received results for the paper.
Ironically, the school in Soin/ Sigowet constituency was ranked first in the county in 2011 and 2012.
Kericho County Director for Education Esther Muiru said her office had received communication on the cancellation of the Kiswahili results and would launch investigations into the matter.
“This is the only examination centre in the county that recorded exam malpractices and we are going to launch investigations to establish what happened,” Muiru said.
While releasing the 2013 KCPE results on Tuesday, Cabinet Secretary for Education Jacob Kaimenyi said his ministry would seek to have examination irregularity cases expedited.
A sombre mood enveloped the school Thursday as the school’s director and headmaster were holed up in a day-long meeting.
