Two General Service Unit officers were shot dead and their senior injured in a banditry attack within Laikipia Nature Conservancy (LNC).
The two constables were patrolling Kamwenje at the Laikipia-Baringo border when suspected bandits attacked them.
Rift Valley Regional police commander Fred Ochieng' could not divulge further details of the attack. "We are currently in a security meeting to deal with the situation. We will give full details soon," he said.
According to the area residents, the two died on the spot. Their senior, an inspector, was rescued and taken to Ndindika health centre.
The residents said over 50 police officers were patrolling the Laikipia-Baringo border when they were attacked. "We heard gunshots and ran for our lives. Later, we found the two officers dead," said a resident John Njoroge.

The shooting brings to seven the number of security officers killed by the suspected bandits in the last two weeks.
Ten civilians have also been killed and thousands of livestock.
