In every school there is a bully. The bully loves to pick on innocent victims to unleash their terror on. In Tasha’s class, there is one such little creature. Let’s call him Sebastian.
Sebastian, who is in my daughter’s class, has a tendency to pick on weak targets who happen to be small girls especially the polite and respectful ones.
He unleashes his bullying tactics in various places - the dining hall, the bus, the playground - basically any open place. My daughter had never been a direct victim, but she had witnessed instances where he unleashed terror on helpless pupils.
There was a day Tasha reported to me how Sebastian grabbed her best friend’s snack box and ate all the contents mercilessy. After that mean act, he crushed the poor girl’s lunch box.
Tasha told me her friend cried and reported him to the class teacher, but nothing ‘concrete’ was done to stop the boy.
Another time, Sebastian pulled another girl’s hair because she refused to hand over her lunch box. Shame on him.
Yet another time my daughter reported how Sebastian had kicked another boy because he sat on his spot in the bus. The funny thing is that almost every day, there is a reported incidence of something nasty Sebastian has done, but they all go unpunished.
“How come the school does not expel this boy?” I remember asking Tasha’s teacher one day. “The principal cannot do anything about him because he is an untouchable,” the teacher shared with me.
Apparently, the bully does not face any disciplinary action because his mother is the owner of the school. So it happens that this bully goes on unleashing mayhem on innocent students and the administration does not do anything.
How unfortunate. Sebastian has not picked on my daughter, thank God, because the day he does, he will know that he has picked on a wrong target.
What I know, for sure, is that bullies are cowards. They like to pick on well-mannered kids because their polished mannerisms make them look like easy targets. I have raised my daughter to be respectful of everyone.
Schools should be alive to such realities and protect innocent kids from the wrath of the likes of Sebastian whose upbringing is wanting. Parents have raised their kids in different ways - some as respectful beings - while others raise brats.
The sad thing is that these two groups end up meeting in one space called a school and that is where the bullies show their animalistic instincts.
Teachers should be alive to such realities and stand up for victims of bullying. I will say it again, school bullies are cowards just like cyber bullies, who hide behind computers to unleash terror.
