The term peacocking has been making rounds in the social media streets for quite some time. Peacocking  is when a person wears or does something just to get noticed. Just like how a peacock behaves when searching for a mate, the beautiful bird displays its feathers to attract a mate. Now when the bird does it, it’s okay, but for a human it is sometimes outlandish.

Case in point, you and your girls are at your local. It’s a Friday night and the drinks are in plenty. During your drunk haze you spot a man wearing a neon coloured jumpsuit and holding a chicken. He seems to be seated alone and his eyes keep darting around then returning to his phone. He doesn’t seem intoxicated. Its’s not Halloween, or a theme party either, why is he holding a chicken. So your drunken self decides to approach him and figure out what gives. Well, the peacocking worked. He has gotten your attention and will now strike up a conversation.

The conversation:

*Lots of stumbling and squeezing past drunk sweating humans*

You: “Hey, excuse me.”

Peacock: “Hey, yes”

You: “No offense, but why are in a neon jump suit carrying a chicken?”

Peacock: *pretends to be amused*, oh this, it’s just something I do every day. My chicken, Ken, doesn’t like being left alone in the house. But enough about me would you like a drink? Are you here alone or with friends?.....”

And that ladies and gentlemen is how you get roped up into a series of questions which ultimately lead to “are you single?” and “how about we get out of here?”. His stance has gained him the attention he wanted and you the female end up feeling like a complete and utter fool for falling for it. Well you weren’t aware of the peacocking activity but now you are wiser.

Goodluck trying to get away from the horrible version of ‘Let me get to know you better’. If you’re lucky, your girls will come to your rescue and shoo the peacock away. Let him go bother someone else.

Next time to see someone dressed in a very odd manner and is busing darting their eyes around, don’t bother approaching. They are trying to attract attention and if that’s their way of gaining human interaction...well, to each his own.

If you were arrested with no explanation, what would your friends and family assume you had done?
