When bad things happen, it is easy to be paralysed in the initial turmoil of emotions. Shock, denial, anger, frustration and regret can leave you stuck.

This state of being unable to move on can last a few hours or even days. Unfortunately, for some people, it can last years or even decades.

But accepting the circumstances, trying to understand what has happened and making small steps towards picking up the pieces are the first steps towards healing.

And before you know it, you are able to take a few more steps forward. Before long, you are able to run, lift off and finally soar.

When you understand that you can rise up from the ashes of devastation and despair, you are a step closer to overcoming your circumstances.
