2021 has been a great year for the beauty world. As much as we are dealing with the pandemic, it hasn’t stopped us from changing the game and pushing the boundaries when it comes to style.

One of the best shifts we have seen is the movement towards self-expression when it comes to makeup. People aren’t afraid to try bold looks and there are new creative concepts every day.

While we celebrate the new trends, there are some we need to bury and leave behind as we prepare to cross over to a new year.

If you’re guilty of these notoriously bad makeup trends you need to ditch them like yesterday:

Over the top lashes

Popping eye lashes are a subtle but powerful part of a makeup look. They make the whole look come together glamorously which is why there are volumizing mascaras, eyelash extensions and procedures like lash lifts that give you that extra pizzazz.

At the same time, we need to talk about those over-the-top lashes extensions that don’t look good at all. These might be great for a modeling gig or a costume party but wearing those every day is something we need to leave in 2021.

Wearing the wrong foundation shade

Applying a shade of foundation that’s not your shade will kill the whole look. That’s one of the first things people will notice even when you’ve done everything else perfectly.

You can avoid this by testing your foundation under natural light or good lighting to see whether it’s the correct shade for you. You should also remember to choose a shade that is closest to your face instead of selecting one that is the color of your wrist while doing a foundation test.

Using bad quality products

At some point we need to say no to products that can end up destroying our skin in the name of saving a few shillings.

Bad quality products are known to contain harsher chemicals and they honestly don’t look as good as high-quality products when you compare.

Take your makeup game to an entirely new level by investing in good products in 2022.

Wearing party makeup everyday

It’s easy to spot the difference between makeup that should be applied for a night out or event and makeup that is meant for every other normal day.

Party makeup is more dramatic and intense and that can be too much for daytime wear.

If you wear heavy makeup every day, your skin will start ageing more and that is why it’s better to reserve that for special occasions.

Overdone brows

Fuller eyebrows have been trending for a while now. We no longer see the thin brow look that was famous in the early 2000’s and I don’t think they will make a comeback soon.

The full brow look is more desired but it’s actually possible to go way too far in an attempt to achieve this aesthetic. Overdrawing them is definitely another trend that needs to disappear.

The good thing is you can always learn how to draw them in a more natural and soft way that looks pretty.
